THEME: “WOMAN, YOU HAVE GREAT FAITH.”

This is the 20th Sunday in ordinary time (Yr. A). Today Our Lord Jesus Christ showed himself a missionary. He broke the barriers set by all types of discrimination, racial, gender or nationality etc. He proved himself a missionary by crossing the borders of Gennesaret to Tyre and Sidon. Those who lived in darkness had seen a great light! Even foreigners could see God if they do good. Isaiah says: “Foreigners who have attached themselves to the Lord to serve him and to love his name and be his servants… these I will bring to my holy mountain “(Is. 56:1.6-7). This means that anyone (man or woman) from any nationality who does the will of God is acceptable to God.

We should know that all the earth belongs to God who is the Father of us all. When one person is hurt, the entire world has been offended. Any bad thoughts against another is the rejection of God’s love for all. Whatever affects one part of the globe affects all because that part of the globe adds to the round shape of the earth. This is why Paul writes: “God has imprisoned all men in their own disobedience only to show mercy to all mankind”(Rom. 11:13-15ff). God cares for us all because we are his children.

The power of praying for others and asking others to pray for you is shown when the disciples noticed the Canaanite woman asking Jesus to heal her daughter. “Sir, Son of David, take pity on me. My daughter is tormented by a devil ” ( Mtt. 15:21-28). Her persistent plea touched the disciples who approached Jesus saying, “Give her what she wants’, because she is shouting after us.” Since her faith was great and the disciples also pleaded on her behalf, her prayer was granted. Praise the Lord! The prayer of faith moves the Lord to act. So pray constantly. Prayer is the key! Happy Sunday.
