HOMILY FOR THURSDAY 3RD WEEK OF LENT – YEAR B

THEME: Where do I stand?

Jer. 7:23-28; Luke 11:14-23

I think of institutions that are unable to stand for truth, and fight against oppression and injustice as I read the gospel passage of today. I think of individuals that are unable to appreciate good because they would rather see evil. I think of those who stand against Christ and his message of repentance. I think of those who scatter the flock of God, rather than gather it. Then I think of my constant failings and mistakes as a human being…

Friends, how could the people say of Jesus that he cast out devils through the power of the prince of devils? Does that even make any sense? This shows that we can go to any length to protect our own false ideas, even when we know the truth. When we are too full of ourselves, we tend to project evil unto the good works of others. We must retrace our steps, soften our hearts, and obey God’s voice, that we may not be overtaken by His kingdom, Amen.
