THEME: HEALING SOUL AND BODY.

Wise people say, “A healthy body and a peaceful soul are the greatest treasures.” Jesus demonstrates the importance of holistic healing, which implies healing the spirit, mind, and body. The first thing he said to the paralytic who was brought to him was, “Take heart, my son, your sins are forgiven (Matthew 92). The action of jesus may suggest that the paralytic’s physical ailment was caused by his sins. However, it is unwise to categorically state that all suffering and sickness are caused by sin.

The story of Job and Jesus are clear proofs that even innocent people suffer. (see John 9:1-3). No doubt, body, and soul are closely knit and physical disease can weigh the spirit down, just as spiritual ailment can harm the body. Holistic healing includes physical, mental, and, spiritual healing of the soul through the sacrament of reconciliation (confession), which is also called a healing sacrament. Two common mistakes today are ) overdependence on physicians and ignoring God, or praying so much and ignoring the doctor; (ii) seeking the healing of the body without paying attention to the cleansing of the soul.
The book of Chronicles says King Asa’s sickness became worse because he sought only the help of physicians but did not seek the Lord (2 Chronices 16:12). n healing the paralytic Jesus shows that in the hierarchy of healing, spiritual healing comes first. How committed are we to seeking healing for our spirit, mind, and body?
