*Ex 33: 7 – 34: 28, Matt 13: 36 – 43.

Everything has been explained in the Scripures; both the origin of the Word of God (the sowing of the good seeds), the origin of evil (the planting of bad seeds by the enemy) and the imminence of God’s final judgment. The Devil is the sower of bad seeds, Matt 13: 26 while Jesus is the Word that was made flesh, Jn 1: 14. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life, Jn 14: 6.
God wants us to live in his presence as Moses lived in the tent of meeting and kept communing with God from time to time in their wilderness journey. The pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the door of the tent as the Lord spoke with Moses and the people will rise up and worship, every man at his tent door. The cloud was the most common Old Testament symbol of God’s presence ( the Shekinah glory).

Today, we have the Eucharistic tabernacle as our new tent of meeting with God’s presence, Heb 10: 19. As Moses gets solutions to their problems and gets them reconciled with God each time they offended him, so too do we have our new tent of meeting with the presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist as the solution to all our spiritual problems. We must reconcile with God through the sacrament of penance in order to be able to meet Christ at the Eucharistic table. As constant as this reconciliation was in Old Testament times so it is even in the New Testament dispensation, 2 Cor 5: 17.

The Sunday evening Bible study and Benediction is supposed to be a wonderful tent of meeting – a perfect arrangement that can unify us with God through the combined forces of sharing the Word of God and receiving the Eucharistic benediction. Unfortunately most Catholics are no longer taking advantage of this wonderful spiritual arrangement. We must avoid going to occult dibias and juju men when we have spiritual problems because the Bible says that ‘those who choose other gods increase their sorrows’, Ps 16: 4. Today’s gospel reminds us that hell is real and those who would go there are the agents of the devil (those who cause others to sin) and the evil doers (wicked people). Let us try to restore our tent of meeting with God ‘hic et nunc’ (here and now) before it is too late. May God bless you today!
