* Ex 34: 29 – 35, Matt 13: 44 – 46.

Moses was such a great man of God that he radiated so much Shekinah glory. In him was a fulfilment of what the Bible said: ‘I will be a wall of fire and a Shekinah glory all around you…whoever touches you touches the apple of my eye’, Zech 2: 9 – 13. He knew how to listen to God. He knew the secret of quiet time. Each time he went into the tent of meeting with God he came out with his face radiant with God’s majesty. They had to pressurize him to put a veil on his face.

Moses had a unique Seminary training, so to speak. His preparation for the ministry was quite special. According to Vima Dasan, ‘Moses spent 40 years in the palace of Pharoah thinking he was somebody; He had to spend another 40 years at the back side of the desert realizing he was nobody; Then he finally spent another 40 years in the wilderness realizing what God can do with nobody’. Finally, he became such a spiritual man that he radiated God’s glory in toto; to insult him was to insult God himself. Ask Miriam his sister, Num 12: 1 – 10.

There is such a great joy in communing with God; such an aura of divine majesty and glory that makes us transcend the celestial plane into the heavenly realm. This is the kind of joy that Jesus talks about in today’s gospel that makes a man who discovers the treasure of knowing God go and sell all that he has and buy that treasure. Intimacy with God is like a priceless pearl that is worth more than anything you can acquire on earth. St Paul says: ‘I count everything else as loss because of the supreme advantage of knowing Christ Jesus’, Phil 3: 8. Many are wallowing in a quagmire of spiritual aridity and the signs/ fruits are; they find it hard to pray or fast, they don’t give offering and can’t even offer their time for things of God. To listen to 30 minutes homily is such a big problem to them but they can spend hours at the beer parlour and other places of entertainment. May the Lord give us grace to experience his Shekinah glory and the joy of communing with him as Moses did!
