HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY/HOLYWEEK – YEAR B

THEME: The disciple’s willingness!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor

Is. 50:40-9; Matthew 26:14-25

No matter how much I fear suffering and death, I know it would be an honour for me to be persecuted, and even killed on account of the gospel. As Isaiah prophesied, ‘for my part I made no resistance, neither did I turn away. I offered my back to those who struck me, my cheeks to those who tore at my beard. I did not cover my face against insult and spittle…’ Jesus himself was the perfect fulfillment of these words of scripture.

The disciple isn’t afraid to use his tongue. He does not care so much about his own business as he does about his master’s. This was the mistake Judas Iscariot made. For love of money, he sold his master. He had somehow convinced himself that Jesus would find a way out of the situation, as he usually did. He failed to be a true apostle when it perhaps mattered most. Dear friends, are we willing disciples? Do we believe that God delivers us from all manner of shame, pain and disgrace? Let us seek God’s will, and daily strive to be less self-centered, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
