Time and time again, I’ve come across people with ‘strange stories’. People who exist in dual realms. Time and again, I’ve heard their testimonies, of how the devil cowers at the rosary prayers. Today’s feast was instituted by Pope Pius V to celebrate the anniversary of the defeat of the Turkish fleet at the battle of Lepanto, on the first Sunday in October 1571, which put an end to the threat of Muslim domination of the Mediterranean at the time. The celebration was later moved to October 7.

Friends, we must become soldiers of Mary; Christians who aren’t ‘rosary shy’. The Holy Rosary remains the weapon with which the reign of Satan will be brought to an end, whether he manifests himself in unbelieving and troubleshooting neighbours, or in our various human weaknesses. Like the 72 in today’s Gospel, we’re called to use the rosary to continue to wield much greater power over the Kingdom of darkness, for we have been given power to trample under foot serpents and scorpions. As a priest colleague of mine wrote in reflection last year, “let’s go to war.” Pick up those rosaries and make a difference. Our world needs it!
Good morning dear. Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, pray for Us!
