MONDAY HOMILY FOR 1ST WEEK OF ADVENT – YEAR B

FRIDAY 3RD WEEK IN ADVENT - HOMILY - YEAR B

MONDAY HOMILY FOR 1ST WEEK OF ADVENT – YEAR B

THEME: Only say the word!

By: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor

Is.2:1-5; Matt.8:5-11

These four weeks of Advent should be seen as a journey towards Jesus. It is a journey of faith and hope. We learn not only humility, but also faith and compassion from the centurion in the gospel reading of today. A man who had so much military might comes to Jesus and asks favour not for himself, but for his servant. He does not send another servant, but goes himself to Jesus. And he admits that he isn’t even worthy to have Jesus under his roof.

ALSO RECOMMENDED: HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE 1ST WEEK OF ADVENT.

Friends, we are most unworthy of God’s mercy and compassion. We know how many times we’ve done terrible things. We know how often we look down on those we think we’re better than. We know how swollen we get once we’re given a little power and authority. Today, let us like the centurion come to Jesus and beg him to speak his word over our situation, that we may become humbler, more compassionate and caring of those around us, less proud, and less sinful… Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord.

Good morning dear. God bless your week ahead.
