MONDAY HOMILY FOR THE 4TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME – YR. B

THEME: Humility breaks chains!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor

2 Sam 15:13-14,30;16:5-13; Mark 5:1-20

If there’s anything I know I struggle with on a daily basis, it’s humility. I pray for this gift unceasingly. I’ve come across many people with this rare gift. The sheer genuineness of their humility makes you want to hide your head in shame. David reminds me of these kinds of people. He was a King, he had power, but he was also humble. Very humble. It was this humility that enabled him repent of his sins and see God’s will in the misfortunes he faced later in life.

Friends, the demoniac in the gospel reading of today had broken physical fetters and chains because of the many demons in him. But seeing Jesus at a distance, he ran up and fell at his feet… This is strange behaviour. Shouldn’t he have run far away? Perhaps, deep down in the heart of the possessed man, he wanted so much to be delivered. Why else would he try to cover the distance between him and Jesus? We too must come to the feet of Jesus and beg him for the grace to be delivered. Let us try to be more submissive to the will of God in our lives; that’s how chains are broken.

Good morning dear. God bless you greatly today and always.
