PALM SUNDAY HOMILY / YEAR B

THEME: “HOSANNA! BLESSINGS ON HIM WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD”

This Sunday the church celebrates the Passion of the Lord, also known as Palm Sunday. It marks the beginning of the Holy Week, leading to Easter Sunday . The Lord entered into Jerusalem riding on a Colt. People were spreading their clothings, palms, green leaves and tree branches on the road for the Lord to pass through. They were shouting Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessings on him who comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest heavens!(Mk.11:1-10).

Jesus is Lord indeed! Yet, this did not enter his head. “His state was divine, yet Christ Jesus did not cling to his equality with God”(Phil. 2:6-11). The humility of Jesus shows us what heaven is like. As his followers we are called to be like him. He did not run away from insult nor from the cross. As Isaiah says: “I did not cover my face against insult and spittle”(Is.50:4-7).

Upon all his humility people still hated him and had evil intents against him. Among his inner circle disciples, one became the traitor. Judas Iscariot, who was the treasurer betrayed him. When Jesus said, “one of you is about to betray me” Judas like others said, Not I, surely? In the same way, we betray Jesus and still deny it. The time you hate your neighbor, the time you discrinate, the time you receive bribe, the time you insinuate people to steal, and sponsor kidnappers, you betrayed Jesus. There is time to ammend your life today. We adore you Oh Christ! and we praise you! Because by your Holy Cross your have redeemed the world! Happy Palm Sunday to you all..
