YEAR A:1ST SUNDAY OF LENT HOMILY

HOMILY FOR THE 1ST SUNDAY OF LENT [YEAR B]

YEAR A:1ST SUNDAY OF LENT HOMILY

HOMILY THEME: Period of Preparation

BY: Fr. Emmanuel Nwokeji.

The first reading (Gen.2:7-9, 3:1-7) presents the fall of Adam and Eve to God’s will, while the Gospel (Matt.4:1-11) presents the steadfast of Christ Jesus to God’s will.
What Eve set in motion, confirmed and completed by Adam was reversed and resisted by Jesus Christ whom we are called to follow His way that lead to life.

Our beginning of down fall like Adam and Eve go with the acceptance of spoken lie. Satan is a liar and offers nothing but lie and illusion. He offered lie to Eve and Adam, and their acceptance of the spoken lie led to separation from God. Satan’s lie promise a great benefits or enlightenment in the case of Adam and Eve, but in reality a hideously twisted caricature will be received. We can blame Satan for enticing us to accept lie but he cannot absolve the consequences of our disobedience to God’s will. Also, when we do not accept lie from Satan, he cannot withhold the reward of our obedience.

Satan offered Jesus the lust of flesh, lust of eyes and pride of life but Jesus rejected the offer for our salvation. Let us be mindful of what we accept and reject from people in carrying out the will of God.

As we participate conscientiously in this preparatory season, may God help us to do his Holy Will in all ramifications for the greater glory of His Holy name, and good of humanity.

Happy Sunday!
Happy New month.
You are blessed+ in Jesus name.
