4TH SUNDAY IN ADVENT - HOMILY

4TH SUNDAY HOMILY IN ADVENT – Year B.

THEME: Just as he promised!

By: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor

2 Sam.7:1-5,8-12,14,16; Rom.16:25-27; Luke 1:26-38

David was worried that God’s house was a tent while he lived in a house of cedar. But God’s plans transcended houses for himself. The larger picture was the redemption of the whole human race, and God had designed it in such a way that the one who will come to save the world would be from David’s line, thus making David’s Kingdom secure forever. This becomes the mystery that was to be revealed in later years.

Friends, God’s timing is always right; always perfect. Think about this closely. Several years later, God decides to fulfill the promise he made to David through the prophet Nathan, by sending the angel Gabriel to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David. The angel does not just inform Mary that she’ll be the mother of the saviour, he also tells her about her kinswoman Elizabeth, who was now in her sixth month of pregnancy, thus pointing out that nothing is impossible to God. Let us like Mary believe in the power of God’s word, and ask that his will be done also in our lives.

Good morning dear. Happy last Sunday of Advent. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance!
