INTRODUCTION
Good morning my dear brothers and sisters in Christ, today we celebrate the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time of the liturgical calendar Year B. And today in a special way, we commemorate the Sunday of the Word of God.

ALSO RECOMMENDED: 3RD SUNDAY HOMILY IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR B

ABOUT OUR FIRST READING
Our First Reading from the book of the prophet Jonah 3:1-5, 10 : In this passage Jonah, obeying God, warned Nineveh of impending destruction. The city’s inhabitants, from all ranks, sincerely repented, leading God to spare Nineveh from the foretold disaster.

ABOUT OUR RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Our Responsorial Psalm from Psalm 25 is saying: I seek the Lord’s guidance in His truths and paths. Remembering His mercy and love, I ask for His teaching, as He leads the humble in justice and righteousness.

ABOUT OUR SECOND READING
Our Second Reading from the 1st letter of saint Paul to the Corinthians 7:29-31 : Is challenging us by telling us to live with the awareness that our earthly experiences, whether in marriage, sorrow, joy, or material dealings, are fleeting. The world’s present form is passing, emphasizing a transient existence.

ABOUT OUR GOSPEL READING
Our Gospel Reading from the book of Mark 1:14-20: Tells us that, after John’s arrest, Jesus went to Galilee, preaching God’s imminent kingdom and urging repentance and belief in His message. By the Sea of Galilee, He called Simon and Andrew, fishermen, to follow Him and become ‘fishers of men.’ They promptly did. Next, Jesus summoned James and John, who also instantly left their father and work to follow Him, illustrating the compelling nature of Jesus’ call and message.

CONCLUSION
This Sunday we also mark the occasion of the Sunday of the Word of God, which was instituted by our current Supreme Pontiff, Pope Francis, because of the need for all of us as Christians to deepen our knowledge and understanding, appreciation and immersion in the Word of God found in the Scriptures. It was often said that Catholics do not have a good grasp, knowledge or understanding of the Scriptures, and hence, it is easy for us to be led astray by those who claimed to know the meaning of the Scriptures, and those who twisted and changed the meaning of the Word of God to satisfy their own aim and ambitions, their wicked and unholy purposes, drawing us away from the righteous and holy path of God. This is why we all need to deepen our knowledge and understanding of God’s Words in the Scriptures.
May God bless us in all our lives and in everything we do.
