HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF THE 2nd WEEK OF EASTER YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: SEEK NOT ONLY THE GRACE OF GOD BUT THE GOD OF GRACE

BY: Fr Benny Tuazon

John 6:1-16

In the day’s Gospel, Jesus questioned the reason why the crowd was following Him. It was actually more for the people to reflect on themselves what attracted them to Jesus. They were not anymore concerned with the time. Jesus was like a magnet that draws them hard to Him. His words and actions were irresistible. It paved the way for another miracle, another show of God’s power and authority in Jesus. The miracle of the multiplication of the loaves was a sign for them to realize and know Jesus better. To some, it may just be to learn from His teachings or benefit physically from His miracles. Yet, those may serve as doors towards faith. To only seek the miracle is to miss the point. Jesus only uses them to enlighten and invite one to faith.

The miracle was a foretaste of the Kingdom. In the Kingdom, no one will be hungry, that is, no one will be in need. The Kingdom satisfies. The Kingdom is our enough. Thus, the bread which leads to eternal life is the matter. That bread of life is Jesus. Those who eat ordinary bread will be physically satisfied but not spiritually. Jesus is the Bread of Life. Seek Him who is the source of the all bread and the one Bread who will bring us eternal bliss.

Seek not only the grace of God but the God of grace.
