HOMILY FOR SECOND WEDNESDAY OF EASTER: GOD IS WITH YOU

HOMILY FOR SECOND WEDNESDAY OF EASTER: GOD IS WITH YOU

HOMILY THEME: Divine Protection and Guidance

BY: Fr. Karabari Paul

“The men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people.”

In the First Reading of today (Acts 5:17-23), the apostles got arrested by the high priest and Sadducees. The apostles had been warned previously by the Jewish leaders not to teach in the name of Jesus. Nevertheless, they continued to proclaim the gospel of Christ in the temple and were doing mighty works.

This provoked the authorities to arrest them, but God sent an angel to bring them out with instruction to go right back into the temple and proclaim the way of life in Christ. God’s work cannot be stopped by men. The Sadducees never believed in the existence of angels, but it was an angel that set the apostles free from prison. God’s deliverance is in itself a testimony for the delivered and a call to repentance for unbelievers. When God gives you a mission, He makes provision. He defends His name. Dismiss the risk factor, and you become a bad worker for the kingdom business.

God protects His people. Nobody can boastfully displace those God has placed on an assignment. Jesus had told Peter in Matthew 16:18 that “the gates of hell shall not prevail against the Church.” Here, He offered a physical affirmation of that fact by sending an angel to release the apostles from prison. In so doing, the Lord thereby showed what He does for the Church throughout the ages: He protects and frees His Bride to proclaim and live and advance. What is most telling is that the Church’s marching orders do not change, and they certainly do not change as a result of changes in environment or escalating risk. No, the Church has been called to a task: bearing witness to the risen Christ. That was the Church’s calling. That is the Church’s calling. That will always be the Church’s calling until the Lord returns. As it is in Nigeria, so it is in India. The mission is the same universally.

By taking them to the temple, He simply refocused them on their mission. God has a purpose for your life and a job for you to do. So, keep looking forward. Don’t let yourself be distracted by anyone or condition because God has got your back. God can still do the same thing for us. Whatever is hindering us from our mission, God can deliver us and redirect our path. Prison exists in different forms. There are people who are still subjected to prison. Some people who act as authorities may have also vowed never to allow them to fulfil their dreams or see their happiness. But the good news is that God’s authority is still supreme, and angels still exist. GOD IS STILL ON THE THRONE. May God heal our world, bless and protect us all through Christ Our Lord Amen.
