HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK OF EASTER, YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: The Greatest love Story ever told!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor

Acts 5:17-26; John 3:16-21

Weeks ago, I was privileged to be on NTA Good Morning Nigeria to discuss the uniqueness of Good Friday. One of the questions the presenter asked us was, “why did God decide to redeem man after man disobeyed him in the Garden of Eden?” My response was simple, LOVE! The story of our salvation is the greatest love story ever told. And this is how today’s gospel reading opens – “God so loved the world…” Jesus then goes on to tell Nicodemus that although God loves us, there are in fact those who prefer darkness to light, even though light has come into the world. These people do wrong and perform evil deeds; they hate and avoid the light for fear their deeds will be exposed.

This is perhaps why the high priest and his supporters arrested the Apostles in today’s first reading. They didn’t want anyone to know the truth behind what they had done to Jesus. But the angel of the Lord burst open the prison gates. Friends, truth cannot be buried. Our evil deeds are not as hidden as we think they are. Jesus encourages us today to live by the truth, that it may be plainly seen that whatever we do is done in God. We must not continue to deny Jesus a place in our hearts. We must appreciate his ultimate sacrifice for us on the cross, and go forth to tell others all about this new life we have received, out of the great love that God has for us. Are you with me?

God bless your day ahead.
