Homily for Tuesday February 22 2022

(Feast of the Chair of St Peter).

1 Pet. 5:1-4, Matt.16:13-19

Today we celebrate a chair; not just any chair, but the Pope’s Cathedral; a symbol of the unity of the Catholic Church. We celebrate our legitimate authority in the Catholic Church, given by Jesus Christ himself to Peter, when Peter proclaimed Jesus as the Christ, Son of the living God. It’s not the authority to walk tall and proud as many founders of Churches do today, but the authority to be of service to the world, in our fellow men and women.

Friends, Peter understood his role of service perfectly. He knew his authority was not to be used for amassing material wealth, fame or power. He knew he was not called to be a dictator, who is only interested in advancing his personal schemes and machinations. Peter knew he was called to be an example that the flock of God can follow. Let us pray that we who are leaders in the Church today in whatever capacity, may remember the true reason for which we were called, and that we may learn to truly bind and loose without cost, prejudices and/or biases, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend ahead.
