HOMILY FOR GOOD FRIDAY - YEAR B

MONDAY 2ND WEEK OF LENT / YEAR B HOMILY

THEME: The amount you measure out…

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor

Dan.9:4-10; Ps.79:8-13; Luke 6:36-38

Sometimes, standards are so high, we want to pull them down so we can meet up. But the moment we do that, they stop being standards, don’t they? Daniel had to plead to God on behalf of the people today because they had betrayed Him and had not listened to His laws. Each time I look at my life, I realise that in my own way, I constantly betray God. I don’t trust Him enough; I still entertain fears and doubts; I am not as compassionate as I should be, since I still bear some grudges and fail to be fully charitable, I still struggle with sin…

However, reading through the gospel, I am encouraged to keep trying. Jesus tells us to show mercy to others; He says we are not to look at them and conclude they’re not capable of any good; which amounts to judging them. He says we should search our hearts for those who have offended us, and do all we can to forgive them. This would also mean going out of our way to ask forgiveness from those we’ve wronged. We need to be merciful. Jesus says we should have open hands, willing to give to others who may not be as privileged as we are, for the measure we give out shall be the measure we receive; full measure, pressed down, shaking together, and running over. Lord, may your grace make me whole, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your week ahead.
