MONDAY 6TH WEEK HOMILY IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR B
THEME: Trials as Happy Privileges!
BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)
Jas. 1:1-11; Mark 8:11-13
John used to think he was a well controlled, mature young man – but that was until he fell in love, and eventually got married. Though he loved his wife very much, he knew his life was much easier as a bachelor. However, he could not deny that the issues he had with his wife helped reveal his many defects of character. He found that as he struggled to deal, he got better at self control, anger management, and emotional maturity. His marriage challenges became opportunities for self improvement.

Friends, just as we grow physically, so also we grow spiritually. St James tells us in the first reading that trials actually develop us. So they must be seen as opportunities to mature and progress in the spirit. Hence, the one who thinks he’s poor, should actually rejoice in his high rank, while the rich brother/sister should be thankful that he/she has been humbled, as riches do not last. This is Rhema. So look at your present challenges and take them as happy privileges, since what truly matters is your perspective, and your willingness to strive to be better.
Good morning dear. God bless your week ahead!
