SATURDAY 5TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR B

THEME: In God’s care!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

I Kings 12:26-32,13:33-34; Mark 8:1-10

Sometimes, we can decide to deliberately move away from God’s care and compassion. Take Jeroboam for instance, who made two golden calves, appointed priests from ordinary families to make sacrifices to them, and forbade the people from going up to Jerusalem to worship the true God. We are told that his conduct caused the ruin of his house, and extinction from the face of the earth.

Friends, in the gospel reading, we see that it pays to remain in God’s care. After Jesus had taught the people for three days, he didn’t leave them hungry, but fed all four thousand of them with seven loaves and a few fish. St Scholastica, twin sister of St Benedict understood just how much God loved her. Dedicated to God from an early age, she was able to raise a storm on one occasion just so that her brother might stay the night with her, as the end of her life drew near. Little wonder that her pure soul ascended into heaven afterwards to remain in God’s care.

May we through the intercession of St Scholastica, trust God more and more, Amen. Good morning dear. God bless your weekend!
