Thou art my beloved Son; with thee I am well pleased
Today’s gospel reading describes the baptism of Christ and the proclamation of God the father that Christ is His beloved son and He is pleased with him. “And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens opened and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “Thou art my beloved Son; with thee I am well pleased.” Mark 1: 11
God is so pleased with His son Jesus that He said it out loud; not just for the heavens to hear, but for the earth and the whole universe to hear; “Thou art my beloved Son; with thee I am well pleased.” This illustrates his pride in his dearly beloved son.
This brings to mind another question. “Would God scream out loud even only to the heavens that he is pleased with me?”
Our greatest desire should be to please God and make Him proud of us. In spite of our imperfections, are we able to please the Lord? Is God pleased with us? Is He proud of us? Can He boast about us to His heavenly angels?
The journey here on earth is complicated already. However, we are still called to please God. Learn to live only for Him. He made you. He is your God. Learn to live only for Him.
May God strengthen us with his grace through Christ our Lord. Amen.
