THURSDAY HOMILY, 1ST WEEK OF LENT – YEAR B

3RD SUNDAY HOMILY, YEAR B - LENT

THURSDAY HOMILY, 1ST WEEK OF LENT – YEAR B

THEME: What’s in a chair?

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor

1 Pet. 5:1-4, Matt.16:13-19

Today we celebrate a chair; the Pope’s Cathedra; a symbol of the unity of the Catholic Church. We celebrate our legitimate authority given by Christ himself to Peter, when he proclaimed Jesus as the Christ, Son of the living God. It’s not the authority to walk tall and proud as many founders of Churches do today, but the authority to be of service to the world, in our fellow men and women.

Friends, Peter understood his role of service perfectly. He knew his authority was not to be used for amassing material wealth, fame or power. He knew he was not called to be a dictator, but an example for the flock of God. Let us pray that our leaders in the Church may remember the true reason for which they were called, and that they may learn to truly bind and loose without cost, prejudices or biases, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
