THURSDAY HOMILY, 4TH WEEK IN LENT – YEAR B

THEME: The grace to stay true!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor

Ex.32:7-14; John 5:31-47

It’s quite easy to blame the Israelites and point accusing fingers at them whenever we read about their history of unfaithfulness, like we see in today’s first reading. But how faithful are we who have been given the privilege of knowing the fullness of God’s revelation? We know Jesus Christ; we call ourselves his followers. We know that he gave us a testimony even far greater than that of John. Yet we find it so difficult to stay true to him.

Today, we ought to bother less about pointing accusing fingers and focus more on being authentic in our own practice of Christianity. Though Moses pleaded for the Israelites in the first reading, Jesus tells their descendants that the same Moses will be their accuser. It’s not enough to say we believe in God, without doing anything to show it. Let us therefore pray for the grace to stay true and committed to God’s will. And should we falter, may we be humble enough to ask forgiveness and retrace our steps.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
